The New England Patriots have plenty of positions to address during free agency and only so much time to do it...

Let's take a look at the newest tenant at One Patriot Place!

The Patriots signed Mike Brown because:
... in a perfect world, he'll only play on special teams.
Brown isn't going to be guaranteed playing time, though there does appear to be upside in the third phase of the game as he has totaled 60% of his total snaps on special teams across the last four seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBrenden Schooler, Dell Pettus and Marte Mapu are all options at the position who primarily play on special teams, though, so perhaps there is a world in which a coaching staff that he is familiar with (he played under head coach Mike Vrabel, senior defensive assistant Terrell Williams, defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr, safeties coach Scott Booker, cornerbacks coach Justin Hamilton, and defensive line coach Clint McMillan in 2023) sees some upside and believes he could be an option behind Kevin Byard and Craig Woodson.
The Patriots' next move should be:
... turning their attention toward the front-seven!
New England has eaten away at its own depth throughout the first few days of free agency, saying goodbye to both Anfernee Jennings and K'Lavon Chaisson.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCam Jordan, Joey Bosa, AJ Epenesa, Arnold Ebiketie, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and Kyle Van Noy are still available on the open market, so perhaps they make a play at one of those guys in order to get things moving in the right direction before inevitably drafting someone else at the position next month.
